Free Rice

I bet you are thinking how does a site called "Free Rice" have to do with education? Free Rice has become one of my favorite sites not only because of their purpose but the education value it contains. Free Rice is a non-profit website run by the United Nations World Food Program that donates rice to hungry people when you go on and get a definition correct. For each word that you get right they will donate 10 grains of rice to the United Nations World Food Program. I also like this site because it automatically gives you more difficult words if you get them right, or easier words if you get them wrong. You can also change the subject of your words which is a nice feature. This site would be appropriate for anybody kindergarten age or older. It is a great way to improve your vocabulary and at the same time help fight world hunger. Check it out!

Arcademic Skill Builders

The first site that I would like to share with you is Arcademic Skill Builder. On this site kids can practice math skills such as: adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, and fractions/ratios. There are also language arts games, and a couple geography games where students can test their knowledge of different countries and their capitals. The fun part about these games is that they are very engaging for students because of their similarity to arcade games. Students can play against themselves or they can create their own game and play against their friends. This site would be appropriate for students in 1st-6th grade.

Hello!

Welcome to my blog! Each week I will share a new website or "tech tip" that you will find useful. The websites that I share will be geared towards students in 1st-6th grade and will mainly focus on math, science, social studies, and language arts. I hope you and your child/children find the sites fun and helpful! Feel free to leave a comment if there is something you like about a website, or would like websites on a particular topic.
